The Šar National Park was founded in 1986 and extends southwest of Kosovo, covering an area of about 39,000 hectares. It includes the highest peak in Kosovo, Ljuboten at 2491 meters, as well as the well-known tourist village of Prevallë. The park is home to over 2000 plant species and dozens of animal species, including the brown bear, chamois, and many bird species. In winter, areas like Brezovica offer excellent skiing opportunities.
Proclaimed a national park in 2012, this park extends into the region of Deçan, Gjakova, and Peja, with an area of about 63,000 hectares. The Bjeshkët e Nemuna include the highest peak in Kosovo, Gjeravica, at 2656 meters. The park is characterized by dense forests of pine and beech, alpine meadows, and numerous water springs. It is the last place where the lynx is found in Kosovo and hosts exceptional biodiversity, including the wolf and the golden eagle.
